PF: Bedlam’s production of Music City: A New Musical @ West End Theatre, through February 2, 2025
Bedlam, the company creating works of theater that reinvigorate traditional forms, presents the New York premiere of Music City: A New Musical, with music and lyrics by Billboard country chart-topping songwriter J.T. Harding and a book by Peter Zinn, staged by Bedlam Artistic Director Eric Tucker (beginning October 27 and opening November 17 at West End Theatre, 263 W. 86th Street). A celebration of country music that pushes against preconceived notions of the genre while rethinking the jukebox musical as a story-and-character-driven form, this new work brings audiences into a revelatory and thrilling take on the world of beers, sawdust, and sunshine.
Through soul-piercing ballads and heart-thumping show-stoppers, Music City draws viewers into a first-hand account of supremely talented unsung songwriters passing their time and sharing their art in an East Nashville watering hole. As their lives unfold around their songs—and their songs reveal the emotional contours of their lives—the musical also tells nuanced stories of America’s drug epidemic, the plights of those who join the military, and one struggling artist’s encounters with both these wars as he seeks success as a songwriter. The musical vitally asks: How is success measured when the journey to stardom is life or death? And: Can dedication and passion overcome the cycle of poverty?
PF: The Beautiful Land I Seek @ Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater (aka Pregones/PRTT) through December 29, 2024
Written by Matthew Barbot
Directed by José Zayas
the beautiful land i seek (la linda tierra que busco yo) It’s 1950. Oscar and Gris hurtle towards Washington, DC on a mission: strike in the name of Puerto Rican independence. When their trip goes off the rails, the two men confront familiar faces from the past, new questions about the future, and a tough decision to stay the course or get off the train. If only the other passengers would stop interrupting! Loosely based on historical events and definitely based on recent ones, the beautiful land i seek (la linda tierra que busco yo) is a funny, gripping rollercoaster ride through Puerto Rico’s relationship to the United States.
The world premiere of the beautiful land i seek (la linda tierra que busco yo) is produced in collaboration with Latinx Playwrights Circle & Fault Line Theatre.

Many revues get cast albums. This one didn’t.
Revues seldom if ever get published in hardcover by a major publisher. This one did.
Considering what its title was, it could have just as easily had the same name as a Jason Robert Brown musical.
