Wonder of Wonders: Celebrating Sheldon Harnick

A celebration of the extraordinary legacy of the late Sheldon Harnick – Fiddler on the Roof lyricist, triple Tony Award winner, and Broadway legend – led by Lyrics & Lyricists favorite Ted Sperling.

Harnick was a beloved part of Lyrics & Lyricists from its inaugural season in 1971, appearing in more than 20 productions and events on our stage over 50-plus years. Sperling leads this loving look at Harnick’s remarkable body of work, with music from Fiddler, his Pulitzer Prizewinning Fiorello! She Loves Me, and more, with songs including “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Miracle of Miracles,” “Tonight at Eight,” “When Did I Fall in Love” and others. Coupled with reflections on Harnick’s wondrous life in musical theater, it’s the kind of tribute you’ll only find at Lyrics & Lyricists.

We had Sheldon Harnick on as a guest in 2012 — This Week on Broadway for July 1, 2012: Sheldon Harnick

New York’s Palace Theater Gets an $80 Million Refresh (and 30 Feet Higher)

Rob Weinert-Kendt
Not subposting anyone in particular, honest, but it always amuses me a bit when theatermakers lament the meanness of critics, because in my experience most theatermakers are privately very frank and often quite harshly opinionated about each other’s work.

Peter’s Brainteaser:

This musical based on a famous film could have been called KATIE instead of the title it was given by its American writers.

It was first seen in a foreign production that yielded a foreign-language cast album

Then in a British production that yielded a London cast album.

And then in a Broadway-bound production that never made it to New York and yielded no cast album.

What’s the musical, and why would it be called KATIE?
