Sandy Duncan has been captivating audiences for over six decades with her effervescent charm and multifaceted talent. She began her theatrical journey at the tender age of 12 in a local production of The King and I, and shortly thereafter, received a Tony nomination for her Broadway debut in The Canterbury Tales. More Tony nominations followed, most notably for her celebrated portrayal of Peter Pan in the 1979 revival of Peter Pan. Other Broadway credits include The Boy Friend, My One and Only, and Chicago. Her versatility shone through in television and film as well, she became a household name starring in The Hogan Family, and Disney films such as The Million Dollar Duck, The Cat from Outer Space, and the animated film The Fox and The Hound.
Join us for a special evening of stories, memories, and showbiz lore! Film, TV, and Broadway star Sandy Duncan will be joined in conversation by Drama Desk member Michael Portantiere to discuss her career in show business. A dying woman calls her grandson and asks him to write a play about their family. “But I want you to promise me something,” she says. “Make it as bitter and vitriolic as possible.” In this searing, funny, and deeply personal play, the author of last season’s Prayer for the French Republic recreates thirty years of family fights, monstrous behavior, enormous cruelty, and enduring love. Directing is Trip Cullman (Choir Boy, Murder Ballad).
