On today’s episode, Matt Tamanini is in conversation with Emmy Award-winning composer, music arranger, and orchestrator Jamie Lawrence. He is currently represented on Broadway as the co-orchestrator for “Days of Wine and Roses,” marking his Broadway debut, having also worked on numerous Tony Awards ceremonies over the years as an arranger, composer, and musical director at different times.
Jamie also produced and co-wrote the new album “Rain,” which features performances by his co-writer, the late Nora York. The album is the second in a trilogy of posthumous projects following Nora’s 2016 passing.
In the interview, Matt and Jamie discuss an orchestrator’s process, his journey with Nora and her work, what skills it takes to wear so many different musical hats, and who makes the call to play a winner off at an awards ceremony.
