Special Episode: Brianna Barnes on Her ‘Beautiful’ Connections to Carole King

Play

On today’s episode, Matt Tamanini is in conversation with Brianna Barnes who begins performances on Tuesday, Jan. 9 as Carole King in the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s production of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.” Brianna has been auditioning to play Carole for years but feels like now is finally the right time to take on the role.

In addition to her work as an actor, she is also a singer/songwriter and composer. Brianna wrote the music for last year’s Off-Broadway hit “Walking With Bubbles.” The one-woman show starred Jessica Hendy, who wrote the book, and it is based on her real-life experiences with her son and his father.

In the interview, Matt and Brianna talk about why this role meant so much to her, how her experiences as a songwriter have helped inform her performance, what her favorite Carole King song is to perform, and more.
