Terrence McNally, Tony-Winning Playwright of Gay Life, Dies at 81
Mr. McNally, who died of coronavirus complications, introduced audiences to characters and situations that most mainstream theater had previously shunted into comic asides.

Terrence McNally Every Act Of Life – Q&A talk back, March 23rd 2018, NYC
Terrence McNally – Every Act Of Life – Q&A panel, March 23rd NYC
Moderated by Frank Rich: Featuring Jeff Kaufman, Terrence McNally, Tyne Daly Nathan Lane, Joe Mantello & F. Murray Abraham
Filmed by Michael Lee Stever

Filmmaker Michael Lee Stever (Broadway: The Golden Age, Resurrecting Carrie, Abducted in Plain Sight), who served as co-cinematographer on the Terrence McNally documentary Every Act of Life, is excited to share this never-before-seen Q&A filmed in March 2018 during the New York City premiere of the critically lauded documentary chronicling the unparalleled achievements, ups and downs of legendary playwright McNally. Moderated by Frank Rich, the Q&A features McNally, Tyne Daly, Nathan Lane, Joe Mantello, F. Murray Abraham and Every Act of Life director Jeff Kaufman. Recalls Stever of working on the documentary about Tony-winning playwright McNally: “His ‘In it for the long haul’ spirit has inspired us beyond measure and now that he’s just recently slipped away, it makes these moments and this historic documentary ‘Every Act of Life’ all the more important. Esteemed director Jeff Kaufman, his keenly gifted producer wife Marcia Ross and a veritable who’s-who cast have created a magical cinematic time capsule which has become required viewing. Not simply to get a keener understanding into Terrence’s life and history, but to see how our beloved theater is and will forever remain the lifeblood of our human species. Few playwrights managed to hit us in the gut like Terrence did, and even fewer could punch us with such ferocity then follow it up with a belly laugh that could soothe even the most savage societal onslaught. Rest in peace, dear Terrence, you are a true hero for our age.”

Music video by Stephen Schwartz performing Stephen Schwartz performs “Beautiful City:”
Liz Callaway sings Stephen Schwartz’s inspirational song “Beautiful City” from “Godspell” in her car I love this song by Stephen Schwartz. I think it’s a perfect anthem for our times. I always practice my songs my car, and in this case I was driving on the Upper West Side in NYC. I had the great pleasure of recording a single of “Beautiful City” in New Zealand with an orchestra and chorus, and here, I’m practicing with the track from my recording. (Don’t miss the end of the song. Only in NYC would the siren be in the same key!)
