Tell Me More | Episode 27: Jaime Camil on the Gratitude for the Twists and Turns of his Career

Play

On this episode of BroadwayRadio’s “Tell Me More,” Matt Tamanini talks to international stage and screen star Jaime Camil. A star in his native Mexico, Camil came to fame in the United States on the TV “Jane the Virgin.” He has also been heard in the animated films “The Secret Life of Pets,” “Coco,” and “Hotel Transylvania 3.” His Broadway career includes turns in “Latinologues” and as Billy Flynn in “Chicago.” In 2017, he played Sam Carmichael in the Hollywood Bowl production of “Mamma Mia.”

When Matt and Jaime spoke earlier this spring, it was less than 30 minutes after it was announced that Camil’s new sitcom – then called “Riches to Rags” – had received a pilot order from CBS. Earlier this week, the network picked up the series – now called “Broke” – and announced that it will join the primetime lineup in the winter of 2020.

The pair discusses the excitement and gratitude that Camil was feeling in that moment, his musical theatre dream roles, and how “Broke” will maintain the heart felt in “Jane the Virgin.”
