The New York Musical Theatre Festival, Crystal Theatre and Benjamin Simpson will present MOTHER JONES AND THE CHILDREN’S CRUSADE – the dramatic new musical inspired by the true story of the trailblazing labor organizer – from July 17 to 24, 2014. The show has book, music and lyrics by Cheryl E. Kemeny (co-founder of Crystal Theatre) and stars Lynne Wintersteller (A Grand Night For Singing and Annie on Broadway) and Robin De Jesús (two time Tony Award nominee). MOTHER JONES AND THE CHILDREN’S CRUSADE is directed by Michelle Tattenbaum (Nobody Loves You at The Old Globe and Second Stage), choreographed by Clare Cook with music direction by Micah Young (Best Music Director, NYMF 2013). The show is an Official Selection of the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival’s Next Link Project.
Mother Jones won’t quit and she won’t stay quiet! It’s the turn of the century and aging Mary Harris “Mother” Jones is on a tireless crusade for justice as she leads ragged mill children on a march to end child labor. Inspiring, heartbreaking, and hopeful, this thrilling new musical following “the most dangerous woman in America” will captivate audiences of all ages with its vibrant score blending period infused melodies with powerful contemporary anthems to deliver an uplifting message of human dignity that transcends time.
The MOTHER JONES AND THE CHILDREN’S CRUSADE cast includes Frenie Acoba (Matilda), Tessa Grady (Annie), Lizzie Klemperer (A Christmas Story, The Addams Family), Lulu Lloyd, Marissa Miller (Wicked national tour), Zachary Mackiewicz (Mary Poppins), Johnny Marx, Grace Matwijec (White Christmas), Robert Mammana (Les Miserables) and Kevin Reed.
The show features Scenic Design by Scott Tedmon-Jones, Costume Design by Stephanie Levin, Lighting Design by Isabella F. Byrd and Sound Design by A and L Sound Partners.
All performances will be at PTC Performance Space (555 West 42nd Street in New York). Thursday, July 17 at 8:00 PM; Saturday, July 19 at 1:00 PM; Sunday, July 20 at 12:00 PM; Monday, July 21 at 1:00 PM and Thursday, July 24 at 9:00 PM.
